Day 29: Let nothing go to waste!

A portrait of Derek Prince in black and white
Daily Devotional: Agreeing With God

By Derek Prince

And then, just one other example of the attention of the Lord to detail which always blesses me. You remember that there was a time when Jesus fed 5,000 men plus women and children with two loaves and five fishes. And everybody ate enough and they had a lot left over. And in the end of this account in John 6, it says:

“When they had all had enough to eat, Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.’” (NIV)

I've sometimes commented, I think Jesus was the first president of the anti-litter league. The disciples would have walked away and left it on the ground. Jesus said, "Gather it all up. Let nothing be wasted." That's God's attitude, "Let nothing be wasted."

If we want to learn to think as God thinks, we will pay attention to the little things and be faithful in it before we even begin to think of the bigger ones. This is also an important inspiration when it comes to our attitude and our testimony to people who do not know Jesus. God's heart desires to save every person; from the small, insignificant to the high-ranking. Therefore, do not think easily and nonchalantly about the small openings you encounter in daily life, to share the good news of the gospel, and also to share the chances you have in distributing the Bread of Life. seeing God's attitude is: "Let nothing be wasted."

Prayer Response

Lord, if there are areas in which I can grow to learn to value the small things, in the temporal, but especially in light of the Eternal, I want to invite You to do Your work in my life. Help me to be a distributor of the Eternal Bread of Life, in every way. Amen.
