Day 35: Fight and set your feet!

Through Jesus Christ, God has given us amazing promises but we will have to pass from the ‘legal part’ to the ‘experimental part’. From Joshua 1:1-3 we learn what steps to take in order to enter into the land of God’s promises for us.

“Now therefore arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel. Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses.” (NAS)

I would suggest these are the main principles from Joshua’s story:

1. Where necessary, God will do miracles. But God will not do miracles where they are not necessary.

2. Like Israel, for most of our inheritance we will have to fight. We will not enter into our inheritance unless we are prepared to take on the powers of darkness that oppose us and defeat them with the weapons God has made available to us. Christians who will not fight will not enter into their inheritance. There's a little rather vulgar word that's used in common speech today. It's the word "guts." It takes "guts" to be a Christian. It takes "guts" to enter our inheritance.

3. The third principle from Israel under Joshua is this: that you have to set your feet on what God has promised you. You have to take possession of it individually and personally for yourselvf. And this is where the sufferings come in because when you do that, you will find that you inevitably share in Christ's sufferings. Romans 8:16-17 shows that, in order to inherit God’s glory, we will have to go through the sufferings as well.

God has given you tremendous promises in Christ. His provision is in His promises. But remember your part, your responsibility:

First of all, you have got to be prepared to fight. FIGHT!

Secondly, you have to set your feet on what you claim to be your inheritance. SET YOUR FEET!

Prayer Response

Dear Father, thank You for ALL Your wonderful promises. Thank You for the inheritance. Help me, Lord, to find the ‘guts’ to fight, to not give up, to endure, to persevere, to stand upon Your Word, to oppose and defeat the enemy who wants to block the entrance into that specific part of the Promised Land You want me to possess. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
