The Tonle Sap Lake, located in northwest Cambodia, is the largest freshwater lake in southeast Asia and belongs to the Mekong River system. It is one of the world’s most diverse and productive ecosystems and is home to thousands of people who have made the floating villages their sanctuary.
Many who live here are Cambodians of Vietnamese origin and are the main suppliers of Cambodia’s fishery market. These communities, situated amidst the tranquility of the lake, offer a glimpse into a simple and quiet way of life. The villages remain largely untouched by the outside world, and many of their residents have never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The DPM-Cambodia mission to the Tonle Sap Lake is a testament to the commitment to reaching the unreached. By venturing into these remote communities, Derek Prince Ministries is bringing the life-changing message of Jesus Christ to individuals who may have never otherwise had the opportunity to hear the gospel.
A Boatman's Blessing:
On the Tonle Sap, a floating world,
We share the love, a sacred name,
Of Jesus Christ, the Savior's grace,
A beacon shining in this place.
In wooden boats, they gathered near,
To hear the gospel, clear and dear,
Of forgiveness, love, and peace,
A message that would never cease.
Overcoming Challenges and Sharing the Gospel
A collaborative effort between five pastors from different churches and DPM-Cambodia resulted in a successful outreach mission to a floating village. Despite facing
unexpected challenges, the team persevered, sharing the life-changing message of Jesus Christ with over 200 villagers.
As our mission team navigated through the labyrinth of floating houses, we were greeted by warm smiles and curious eyes. The people of the Tonle Sap are known for their hospitality and generosity, welcoming visitors into their homes and sharing their stories. In these intimate settings, our team had the opportunity to connect with the villagers on a personal level, building relationships and sharing the love of Christ before the outreach event.
The outreach began with a gathering of villagers who traveled by small boats to a central location. The team warmly welcomed the attendees and distributed DPM teaching materials, including the book Do You Realize How Valuable You Are?.
The event commenced with a time of praise and worship, but the serenity was abruptly interrupted by a sudden and intense rainstorm. The downpour created significant noise, making it difficult for the pastors to be heard. Undeterred, I sent out a prayer request for divine intervention. Miraculously, the rain subsided relatively quickly, allowing the outreach to continue.
Sharing the gospel proved to be a powerful experience. Approximately 80% of the 200-plus villagers present decided to accept Jesus as their Savior. This outcome was far beyond the team's expectations, demonstrating the transformative power of God's work. It is a testament to the Holy Spirit's ability to move hearts and minds, even in the face of adversity.
The outreach was a powerful reminder of the immeasurable impact that can be made through faithful and persevering ministry. Jesus calmed the storm two thousand yeas ago, and he can still calm it right now.
Join us to experience how the Lord works miraculously among us, reaching out to the unreached.
