“For some people, it is still October 7th…”
The day after more ballistic missiles were once again fired at Israel, we spoke with Tristan Hall, the Executive Director of Christian Friends of Israel (CFI) in Jerusalem. Derek Prince Ministries is partnering with CFI to distribute Derek’s Bible teachings to believers in Israel.
Tristan Hall shared a heartfelt message about standing with Israel amidst all the uncertainty, insecurity, and suffering. The recent attacks reopen old wounds, he said, and even a year after the first attack by Hamas, for some people, it still feels like October 7th, 2023. Therefore, he made an urgent call to pray for the Israeli people.
Watchmen
In his teaching letter, Praying and Fasting for Jerusalem, Derek compares our role as Christians with watchmen on the wall of Jerusalem. Starting with a passage from Isaiah, he says,
“I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes, and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” (Isaiah 62:6–7)
Derek continues, "Other versions translate it as, 'Give Him no rest, and take no rest for yourselves until the Lord establishes Jerusalem as the praise of the earth.' This is a word spoken to us as believers in Jesus during this time when God is moving toward the restoration of Jerusalem. Though we may not be physically standing on the walls of Jerusalem, in a spiritual sense, that is where God is placing intercessors from nations all over the world."
Prayer for Israel
From his study of the Bible, Derek Prince was convinced that Israel is unique. Israel did not choose this uniqueness; God chose it. Even so, Derek discovered that many people find fault with God because He is restoring the Jewish people—and they feel the Jews don’t deserve it. According to Derek, that is the very essence of favor: "getting what you don’t deserve.”
As our prayers for Israel need to be guided by the Word of God and His Spirit—not by our emotions or by the headlines or social media —here are some suggestions to bring before the Lord:
- Pray for God's peace to fill the hearts of all who live in Israel.
- Pray for Godly leadership.
- Pray for Jerusalem to remain as Israel’s undivided capital.
- Pray for deliverance from religious spirits which dominate this whole territory—Jewish, Christian, Arabic and others.
- Pray for Israel’s salvation and for the release of the Holy Spirit upon Israel.
