Around the world, mission partners are utilizing the Bible teachings of Derek Prince to equip pastors and leaders with the tools they need to strengthen their ministries. One remarkable man who dedicated his life to this mission was the late Ricky Van der Walt, a missionary who used Derek Prince’s materials to train thousands of leaders in Angola, Zambia and Congo.
Hands-On Training
Ricky’s ministry had an extraordinary reach, focusing on empowering local leaders to train others. From 2013 through to 2017, in Angola, he trained 32,439 individuals, while in Zambia, 37,589 pastors and leaders benefited from his hands-on training in evangelism, healing, deliverance, and discipleship. These leaders, many of whom oversee hundreds of churches, now carry on the work of equipping others with the same biblical teachings that transformed their own ministries.
Ricky was passionate about leaving a lasting legacy. He made sure that many of the pastors and leaders he trained received Derek Prince materials, knowing the lasting impact they would have. His vision was clear: to spread the gospel through empowered leaders who could train others and build up churches throughout the continent.
One such leader in Zambia, Apostle Antonia Kakoma of the Full Gospel Assemblies of God Fellowship Churches and the Apostolic Team Outreach Zambia, described the deep impact of Ricky’s ministry and Derek Prince’s resources on their community.
“Derek Prince’s materials are very much helpful, especially to our ministry,” said Apostle Kakoma. “The distribution of these materials has led many denominations to start Bible schools. The materials have uplifted the standard of leadership in many churches.”
Apostle Kakoma went on to express the deep sense of loss and gratitude felt by those touched by Ricky’s ministry: “We are crying and praying to Almighty God to provide us with another spiritual father who has the heart to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ across Zambia and Africa. We are also praying for a continued partnership with Derek Prince Ministries to support us with more materials to train church leaders.”
