In September 2022, DPM Australia outreach workers Peter and Katie drove to Darwin and flew to Elcho Island. Elcho Island is Aboriginal land in Eastern Arnhem land. It has a population of 1800 and was the site of a very significant revival in 1979 that started there and spread in the 80s across much of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. The enduring legacy of that revival continues today. They spent 5 days ministering there.
Elcho Island
Following is Peter and Katie’s report on their experiences:
“One family group wanted to be baptised in water. Derek Prince resources were gratefully received. Some asked could they please have one to give to others in their family groups. What a joy it was to have enough resources with us to say yes to the hunger expressed for the word of God.
Derek Prince’s ‘Pulling Down Strongholds’ was in demand across community groups on Elcho Island. This became particularly evident after meetings where people testified that demons had left them. Some of their comments included: ‘It’s gone from me;’ ‘the dark spirit went out;’ ‘them bad things are off now, gone;’ ‘that bad feeling depression it’s no more;’ ‘that oppression has lifted’ ‘all that torment gone now’ ‘I’m light and free’.
As we shared the word of God people were being delivered from oppression, depression, tormenting spirits. During individual prayer times some were delivered from witchcraft curses; word curses and were able to replace cursing with blessing.”
Central & Eastern Australia
During their travels, Peter and Katie were able to establish connections with Elders and Christian Leaders in other remote Indigenous communities in Central and Eastern Australia.
“We have plans to spend a few months in early 2023 to introduce and distribute Derek Prince Ministry resources in remote Indigenous communities in the Central Desert and Northern parts of Australia.
We have a well-established relationship with Christian community leaders at Yarrabah Indigenous community located 100 kilometres south of Cairns. We look forward to returning there to minister in the area of 'Healing Trauma and Emotional Wounds', an area covered well by Derek Prince teaching. There is great opportunity to see many family groups saved, healed, delivered and discipled well through Derek Prince Ministries Australia resources. This community has committed leaders who are well able to follow through with discipleship.
We also plan to return to Darwin, then Elcho Island and other communities in Arnhem Land such as Milingimbi, before heading back to Alice Springs and Central Australia.
We are in relationship with one of the main Indigenous Pastors in Alice Springs and we look forward to exploring the scope of distribution of Derek Prince Ministries Australia resources in this Central Desert area of Australia.
God is beginning to move powerfully in these communities. We are believing for revival to break out in these communities, and we want to use Derek’s material to disciple the new believers and to equip believers and leaders to strengthen them as they do the work of ministry."
Equipping Believers & Leaders
Derek Prince Ministries Australia sincerely thank Peter and Katie for their heart to reach our Indigenous people of Australia. We are blessed to be a part of what God is doing through their love and support. Together we ‘unite and ignite’ our nation for Jesus.
